Unit Converters

Convert between metric and imperial units, temperature scales, and number systems used in computing.

These four tools are grouped together because they solve the same underlying problem: re-expressing the same quantity in a different unit system. Length and weight conversions are pure scaling (multiply by a fixed factor); temperature is the exception, needing a shift as well as a scale, because its scales do not share a zero point - see the temperature converter for why. The number-base converter applies the same positional-notation idea computers use internally, just with a radix of 2 or 16 instead of 10.

Explore next: why repeated conversions can drift by tiny rounding amounts and how much precision a converted figure actually deserves.

Every figure is checked against our engine before each build - see how this calculator is tested.
