Frequently asked questions

Where do the exchange rates come from?

The European Central Bank daily reference rates, served through the free Frankfurter API. The tool caches the latest successful load locally.

What happens when I am offline?

A built-in fallback table kicks in and a notice tells you the rates are approximate. You are never left with a broken tool.

Are the rates real-time?

No - ECB reference rates are published once per working day. For real-time interbank rates you would need a trading feed; this is the right accuracy for budgeting and planning.

How many currencies are supported?

Thirty-plus: USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, INR, AUD, CAD, CHF, CNY, plus common trading and travel currencies.

Why does the final amount differ from what my bank gives me?

Banks charge a margin over the reference rate plus conversion fees. This tool shows the raw reference conversion.

Is the conversion private?

Yes - only a read-only rates request is made; the amount you convert is never sent anywhere.

How often are the foreign exchange rates updated?

Live reference rates are updated daily from European Central Bank (ECB) published rates via the Frankfurter API.

Can I convert currencies without an active internet connection?

Yes. If an internet connection is unavailable, the converter automatically falls back to recent cached rates or built-in reference rates.
