Frequently asked questions
Where does the IP data come from?
Your IP is detected via a public echo service, and details come from a free IP-geolocation API. Both requests are read-only and send no personal data other than the IP itself.
Is IP geolocation accurate?
It is approximate - typically country/region/city granularity from ISP blocks. It can be inaccurate for mobile carriers, corporate proxies and VPN exit nodes.
Should I worry about privacy using this?
The same information any website already sees when you visit it. The tool does not store or track lookups.
Does it support IPv6?
Yes - both the auto-detected address and manual lookups accept IPv6.
What if the look-up fails?
The tool falls back to displaying your detected IP alone and explains that the detail service was unreachable, rather than showing a broken page.
Can I look up IPv6 addresses as well as IPv4?
Yes. Both IPv4 (e.g., 8.8.8.8) and IPv6 (e.g., 2001:4860:4860::8888) addresses are supported.
Does IP lookup disclose my personal physical location?
No. IP geolocation identifies the network routing location and ISP city/region, not your precise physical household address.
Is there a limit on how many IP lookups I can perform?
Lookups use keyless, public endpoints with generous rate limits intended for normal interactive use.
