How to use the WHOIS lookup
- Enter a domain without the protocol, e.g.
example.com. - Click Look up. The tool queries the registry's RDAP service for the registration record.
- Results show registrar, creation/expiry dates, status codes (and their meaning) and name servers.
- Where registrars legally redact owner data (GDPR), the tool says so rather than fabricating it.

What is RDAP?
Registration Data Access Protocol - the standardized, HTTPS-based successor to WHOIS. Registries expose structured JSON, which is what this tool parses.
Why is the registrant information missing?
Registrars redact personal data for most domains (GDPR and similar rules). The record shows registered-organization data when public and links to the registrar contact page otherwise.
Can I look up any domain?
Most gTLDs and ccTLDs support RDAP. If a registry does not, the tool returns a clear unsupported-domain message instead of a silent failure.
What do status codes like "clientTransferProhibited" mean?
They are registry security states. A legend in the results explains the common ones (clientDeleteProhibited, pendingDelete, etc.).
Is this surfacing private information?
Only publicly published registry data is requested. Redacted fields are honored and displayed as unavailable.
What is RDAP and how does it relate to WHOIS?
RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol) is the modern RESTful replacement for legacy WHOIS, providing structured JSON domain registration data.
